“In seed time learn, in harvest teach, in winter enjoy.”

–William Blake

People often tend to depict winter as a gloomy season while summer is shown as a wonderful time of the year. However, summer isn’t all that great. Although there are a ton of good things about this hot season like ice creams and flowers in bloom, this season is overall much worse than winter. Summer is fine for a few days but experiencing this overwhelming heat for months together can be very frustrating. If you’re a lover of winter then this article is definitely for you. Here are the top 15 reasons why winter is better than summer:

15. No more annoying bugs buzzing around the house.

Scared of bees, wasps, and other random insects in your house? These insects can be very frustrating and annoying. You’re always worried about getting stung by a wasp or bitten by an insect. Well, the good news for you is that winter has virtually no bugs and insects around.  However, most insects usually disappear in winter. This is due to the fact that insects aren’t suited to the cold weather. So they either move to greener pastures or they die out which will keep your house relatively insect-free all winter long.

14. The sun is much less harsh in winter

The sun is responsible for the survival of all life on earth. However, this amazing yellow star can be a bit overwhelming to deal with sometimes. In the summer it becomes very difficult to go outside without applying a bit of sunscreen. Sometimes you might even need to take an umbrella with you. The sun is much more tolerable in winter. In fact, a bit of sun is a welcome sight in winter.

13. You can wear outfits with a ton of layers

One of the best things about winter is the fact that you can combine your outfits without having to worry about the heat. Maybe you could pair that long sleeve shirt with your heavy denim jacket? Or you could get the chance to finally wear that heavy sweater that is impossible to wear in other weathers.  Once you start mixing and matching the possibilities are truly endless.

12. The heat of summer is gone

The one thing that everyone hates about summer, including people who love summer, is the heat. Going outside in the heat can be quite difficult and exhausting. You need to drink water continuously and it can be quite difficult to stay outside for more than a few moments. If you have a job that requires formal clothing then this issue is amplified. The typical formal clothing is simply not made for the summer weather.

11. Winter is the ultimate cozy weather

Everyone loves to be cozy and comfortable. Unfortunately, this is very difficult in summer. Summer is typically an uncomfortable season and you probably need to run your air conditioner throughout the day. Winter on the other hand, is the ideal season to be cozy. It is the perfect time to settle down with a bowl of your favorite soup and relax with a wonderful thick sweater.

10. It’s the time for hot chocolate and warm bowls of soup

Speaking of cozy, there’s no denying that winter season is the perfect season to enjoy a wonderful bowl of soup or maybe a hot beverage. Although there are a bunch of refreshing drinks that you can have in summer, it’s not possible to have a hot soup at this time of the year. However, the satisfaction and warmth that you get from a hot chocolate or other comfort food is indescribable.

9. The days are shorter

You’re probably already aware that nighttime is longer in winter than it is in summer. This also means that the days are much shorter in winter which is excellent news. It gives you a chance to relax more. We always feel like we have to be productive when the sun is out. But when it gets dark, that’s usually a signal that it’s time to relax and go to bed. That’s why winters are a lot less hectic than summers.

8. Sleeping is so much cozier in winter

There’s nothing quite like the feeling you get from snuggling into bed with your thick blanket. Sleeping is quite annoying in summer simply because of how hot it is. You’ve probably spent many days tossing and turning in your bed unable to sleep due to the heat. Going to sleep is so much better and cozier in the winter. Unfortunately, the downside to this is that getting out of bed on a winter morning is extremely tough!

7. It’s easy to get exhausted and dehydrated in summer

This article already went into how annoying summer heat can be, now lets talk about the side effects of this heat. Our bodies are able to adapt to heat by sweating which helps the body to cool down. Unfortunately, this also causes us to become quite dehydrated. This means that you will start to feel tired and exhausted which isn’t a very good combination if you’ve planned to spend the day out of your house. Winter doesn’t have these issues because it’s colder. All you need to do is add on some more clothing.

6. You can always pile on clothes if you’re feeling too cold

Winter is the perfect time to use all those thick sweaters and jackets that you’ve been storing in the back of your cupboard. You can finally wear as many thick clothes as you want without feeling hot and stuffy. The great thing about winter is that you can always put on more clothes if you’re feeling too cold, however, in the summer it isn’t possible to wear the most comfortable clothes all the time. This makes the cold in winter more bearable.

5. Watching movies under a thick blanket is an essential part of winter

Movie night is that one amazing night at the end of the weekend where you get to sit back with some snacks and enjoy your favorite movies. However, movie night simply doesn’t have the same feeling in the summertime. The cold climate of winter makes it ideal for a comfy night on the couch. And the best part about this is that the day is shorter in winter. So you can start your movie night as soon as the sun goes down.

4. The cold weather is an amazing excuse to stay in

Have you ever had those days when you simply don’t want to get out of bed but you can’t think of a good excuse? Well, winter allows you to have a good reason no matter what day it is. The cold is always a great reason to stay indoors and avoid going out. If your area has snowfall then that makes this excuse even better. Many people aren’t going to put a ton of effort into dressing up to face the blistering winter chill. You can use this fact to your advantage.

3. There’s no sweat and grime to worry about

Perhaps the worst thing about summer is the fact that you can never feel properly clean in summer. It doesn’t matter how clean you are, the sweat is going to make you feel quite grimy at the end of the day. Because of this you probably need to wash your face and change your clothes multiple times a day just to feel clean. However, this is not an issue in winter. Because of the fact that we don’t sweat much in winter, you’re not going to feel very icky. This means that you can feel much better throughout the day.

2. You can enjoy the snowy winter wonderland

Wonderful, fluffy, white snow is the best part about winter. You probably remember the first time you saw snowfall. There’s nothing like the feeling of lying on a lovely carpet of snow and watching the snowflakes slowly fall to the ground. Snow is one of those things that make adults feel like children again. The beauty of winter is truly marvelous to experience and this makes winter much better than summer.

1. Winter months are filled with festivities

Finally, we have a reason that most people will agree with, the festivities of winter. Wintertime is the season of family get-togethers and love. We have thanksgiving in November which is an amazing time to meet up with family and friends to have a feast. And of course, we can’t forget Christmas which is arguably the best holiday of the year. These festivities are the perfect way to wrap up the year. Whether or not you agree with the other points on our list, you can’t deny the fact that winter holidays are the best of the year.
